Nov 17th >> Tetine show Aurora at Luke & A Gallery's The Rape of Europe

Tetine take part in The Rape of Europe exhibition with Aurora - a performance on notions of transformation as a metaphor for blurred focus and slippery identity.

Aurora symbolises the beginning of life, and emblematises the transfigurative moment from darkness to light.
Here, Aurora is a name with which Tetine pay homage to Brazilian transvestites living and working in Europe.

In a series of stills from a performance, Bruno Verner is photographed at dawn by Eliete Mejorado. Aurora presents a de-sexed body, occasional props of identity and a plinth with a ghettoblaster on it. With "Aurora" Tetine evoke the sense of un-belonging, deriving from a profound feeling of complicity towards the idea of transformation and transgenderism in everyday life.

"Aurora" is an attempt to explore some of the links, stigmas, expectations, and feelings that people have in relation to sex celebration, identification, displacement and taboo. "Aurora" is a custom-made identity scrutinized for its libertarian approach. Tetine investigate the idea of transformation and displacement in a broad way; encompassing as much cultural, artistic and sexual appetites as social, economic and political inadequacies. Aurora examines the politics of pleasure and masquerade. The object under the limelight is the idea of carnivalization. In addressing how politics of immigration may affect the relationship between silence and identity "Aurora" leaves questions open; about conditions when working in high-risk areas; about the connection between panic, fear and identity; about the broken links between negotiation and presence; about the enforcement of expectation and the loss of identity; about the incompatibility between self-indulgence and conventionalities; about the idea of 'saudade' (nostalgia) for creating new Identities.
